Wouldn’t give it high marks; no comparison to original but high marks for character development.  Did not care for the ending and the prom scene could have been much better in my opinion.  Haven’t seen the subsequent versions so  can only compare to ‘76.

  1. Here’s how AI compares the ending to the original book. I can’t figure see why they made some of the changes - to setup an ongoing series.

In Stephen King's 1974 novel, the story ends in total tragedy: Carrie White crawls away mortally wounded after destroying Chamberlain, bleeds out in a parking lot while telepathically connecting to Sue Snell, and dies. Her mother Margaret is also stabbed and killed by Carrie during the climax.
In Mike Flanagan’s 2026 Prime Video series adaptation, the ending diverges significantly into an open-ended survival story:

    • Carrie's Fate: Carrie survives the collapse of her house and the final confrontation. Instead of dying, she escapes Chamberlain.
    • Emaline's Role: Emaline—who is revealed to be a real, astral-projecting psychic rather than just an imaginary friend—is physically present with Carrie and drives away with her at the end of the season. Emaline also shares the blame for the prom massacre, having taken control during parts of it.
    • Margaret's Fate: Margaret White also survives the initial house collapse (revealing her own latent telekinetic powers), only to be executed shortly after by Adelaide (played by Kate Siegel), an investigator representing a secret organization tracking people with supernatural abilities.
    • The Greater World / Setup for Season 2: Rather than closing the book on a grim telekinetic tragedy, the series ends with Carrie and Emaline driving off to join or evade a larger hidden society
