Seasoned NBC journalist Lester Holt has announced that he is stepping down as the anchor of NBC Nightly News, joining a growing list of newscasters who are parting ways with NBC amid network shakeups.
The 65-year-old journalist, who has helmed the program since 2015, confirmed in a staff memo that he will be exiting the show in early summer. "After 10 years, 17 if you include my years on the weekends, the time has come for me to step away from my role as anchor of Nightly News,"
Holt wrote. "It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to work with each of you every day, keeping journalism as our true north and our viewers at the center of everything we do."
