The Swarm (2023) ~ U.S. Series limited Season Finale tonight

SEASON FINALE9/8c

The eco-thriller about an underwater swarm intelligence of sea dwellers on the attack ends its first season with marine biologist Charlie (Leonie Benesch) facing a choice that could alter mankind’s future forever. Dr. Roche (Cécile de France) may have found a way to kill the Yrr, but Charlie believes there’s something worth saving.
Executive producer Frank Doelger says things “end on a hopeful note.” Hopeful enough for renewal? Time will tell.

The Irrational tonight

10/9c

The strongest episode to date of the unconventional crime drama pits behavioral scientist Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin) against a paid legal expert with the “morals of a jackal,” smartly played by Malcolm-Jamal Warner. They face off in a civil trial following a botched police raid in which a young building inspector is shot and killed in his own home, the result of apparent human error when a “Viper Squad” unit barges into the wrong house. “That raid was a disaster waiting to happen,” concludes Mercer on the stand, but as his outspoken sister Kylie (scene stealer Travina Springer) notes, “How do you persuade a jury whose minds are already made up?”

The CW’s comedy lineup moves to a new night:

SERIES PREMIERE9:30/8:30c

The CW’s comedy lineup moves to a new night, with season premieres of Canadian imports Son of a Critch (8/7c) and Run the Burbs (8:30/7:30c), and a new-to-CW episode of Children Ruin Everything (9/8c). But the real highlight is the première of the wildly irreverent Everyone Else Burns from the U.K. It’s the very definition of a cult comedy, a rapturously funny satire of devout derangement, depicting the Lewis family of Manchester, England, who believe apocalypse is imminent. In this household, a daughter’s straight-A report card is greeted by a “Where did we go wrong?” lament by parents (Simon Bird and Kate O’Flynn) who’d rather their kids be proselytizing than studying.
The greatest sin: the hideous bowl haircut worn by judgmental father David, whose unholy ego makes him feel he deserves promotion to elder of their strict sect, the Order of the Divine Rod. There’s hell to pay when he’s passed over, which only makes
 Burns feel even more heaven-sent

The Royals: A New Era

SPECIAL9/8c

Since the coronation of King Charles III in May, we haven’t heard much about the U.K.’s royal family, for which they’re no doubt overjoyed. But that hasn’t stopped producers from Entertainment Tonight Studios from getting the latest dish from palace confidants and insiders for a new special, with updates on the new monarch as he transitions “the firm” into a modern era a year after Queen Elizabeth’s death.

The Irrational Tonight

10/9c

I wonder what behavioral science expert Alec Mercer (Jesse L. Martin) would make of “human lie detector” Charlie (Emmy-nominated Natasha Lyonne) on Peacock’s terrific Poker Face. This comes to mind as Alec and his team head to Las Vegas when a former colleague, now a pro poker player, reaches out after getting in a dangerous bind. A gambling mystery ensues, and we’ll put our chips on Alec being able to figure it all out.
